Employment type: Freelance / Contract

  • Are you a detail-oriented, self-motivated UI designer?

  • Are you a hybrid, a creator at heart, and interested in value-driven work?

  • Do you have a demonstrated interest in product design, digital design, technology, systems design, freelancing, and/or running a creative services business?

  • Do you want hands-on, paid experience working on client-facing projects?

  • Do you want to be a part of a diverse, smart, curious, no bullsh*t team environment?

  • Do you want to learn from the best of humans?

  • Do you want to be a part of a collective community with exciting growth opportunities?

Tell me more…

Our Collective of researchers and designers working on humanity-driven projects is looking for a part-time UI designer. You will be our collaborator on all things UI, interactive, system design, and communicating with our dev team. You will be interacting with researchers, designers, developers, project owners, and various client stakeholders to keep products innovative, beautiful, design files organized, and (of course) pixel perfect.

This is a paid part-time contract position of 10 - 20 hours per week to start with room to increase. All work can be done remotely.

What would my responsibilities be?

  • Work directly with the researchers, UX designers, and the dev team - being a connective tissue throughout a project

  • Use fundamental principles of visual design (like contrast, alignment, repetition, and proximity) to de-clutter user interfaces

  • Understand, use and evolve the common brand and design language and explain why it is important

  • Understand and use typography, icon, grid, and color systems to layout pages

  • Understand and use different UI patterns effectively

  • Create the visual elements (colors, fonts, illustrations, icons, graphics, ...) of the product that fit within product and company's guidelines to reinforce and extend messaging

  • Collect and organize all the reusable components and patterns to build a design system to replicate designs quickly

  • Create interactive, shareable prototypes (paper or digital) to demonstrate and test a design solution

  • Provide design assets, guidelines, specifications to engineers

You'd be great for this job if...

  • You have at least 1+ years of work experience in User Interface Design or have the portfolio to show off your design chops!

  • You have strong spoken and written communication skills.

  • You are a self-starter. We work remotely, so the most successful colleagues aren't order-takers—instead, they take the initiative to tackle the problems at hand.

  • You have solid organizational skills, pay close attention to detail, and can multitask effectively.

  • You respect people, our difference, and actively seek feedback.

  • You value humanity and value-driven work.

  • You are familiar with various digital team-based tools, such as Slack, Google Drive, Airtable, Toggl and Notion.

  • You possess leadership qualities, communication and negotiation skills, empathy, flexibility, and a willingness to learn new things.

Please note that these are recommended qualifications, but do not let any keep you from applying if you feel you can learn and adapt quickly to turn out high-quality work.
